Three candidates successfully ousted longtime incumbents or former elected officials in their respective races.
In Murfreesboro, Shawn Wright successfully bid for a seat on the City Council. His successful election comes on the heels of a contentious tax increase that residents overwhelmingly opposed last year. In what many described as an historic upset, Wright garnered almost 10,000 votes that resulted in the defeat of longtime City Councilman Eddie Smotherman, who supported the 35-percent tax increase.
First time candidate Jon White entered the political arena for the first time this year. The father of eight was elected to represent Zone 3 on the Wilson County School Board. He defeated well-known, former board chairman Don Weathers, who was backed by the Wilson County Republican Party.
Local businessman Michael Shirley, who placed his hat in the political ring for the first time this year, was elected to represent Zone 3 on the Rutherford County Road Board.
Griffin Strategies also served the reelection campaigns of Keith Bratcher and Judge Shannon Crutcher.
Murfreesboro native Keith Bratcher was re-elected to the Rutherford County Road Board with more than 63 percent of the overall vote.
In Fairview, Crutcher was elected to a full term with a whopping 69-percent of the vote. Crutcher, who is a former Vice Mayor of Fairview, has served as an interim city judge since February 2019 following the death of Judge Lee Dryer.
Based out of Murfreesboro, Griffin Strategies is a fast-growing business and political consulting firm that provides clients with comprehensive management through traditional and modern technology.
